Paul Goodege
Paroa Bay Winemaker
Paul, tell us about your role and what you do at Paroa Bay Winery?
I look after the wine growing at Paroa Bay. Everything from planting a new vine or pruning an old one through to putting a label on the bottle falls within the role. The wide scope ensures that everyday dishes up something new or challenging.
Tell us a about your previous experience and background?
I studied Winemaking in Hawkes Bay, worked in four different regions of New Zealand and completed several vintages oversees. I have always had a passion for plants and the outdoors so this role is a bit of a full circle for me having spent so many years inside winery cellars.
What is your favourite thing to do onsite or in the area?
Onsite is bottling a wine, having so much involvement from start to finish it feels like sealing the lid on a little time capsule. Outside enjoying the Bay of Islands coastal environment through Walking, Fishing and Surfing.
Lastly, what do you love most about New Zealand?
I love the diverse and rich natural, cultural and family environment of NZ. Its great being a Kiwi!
